Among brands with sufficient product depth in the Open Food Facts catalog, how do aggregate brand-level safety scores distribute, and which brands rank lowest on the flagged-additive-prevalence metric?

Methodology

We queried the PlainFoodSafe brands table at server render time and pulled the columns name, product_count, avg_safety_score, flagged_product_pct, has_dye_pledge. The query ranks records by avg_safety_score DESC and returns the top 10. Every numeric value rendered on this page derives from a live SELECT against the production brands table — no figure is hardcoded, and the table refreshes whenever the underlying Open Food Facts contributors + FDA + CSPI dataset is reingested.

Column lineage: each field maps to a typed column in the brands table. Identifier columns carry the entity slug or code used elsewhere in PlainFoodSafe; quantitative columns store values as exported by the Open Food Facts contributors + FDA + CSPI (preserving the original measurement unit). Where the source publishes values in thousands of dollars, we render them via the standard PlainFoodSafe money formatter that converts to billions or millions depending on magnitude. Brand-level safety scores aggregate product-level safety scores, which in turn are computed from the additive composition of each product's ingredient list as recorded in the Open Food Facts public database. A high score does not indicate a brand is 'safe' in any medical or nutritional sense — it indicates that, among the products contributors have catalogued for that brand, the ingredient lists are predominantly free of additives currently flagged by CSPI or under FDA regulatory action. A low score indicates the opposite. Open Food Facts is contributor-built; brand coverage breadth varies, and a brand with a small product count in the catalog may not be representative of its full product portfolio. The has_dye_pledge column reflects whether the brand has publicly committed to removing artificial food dyes from its US-market products; pledge fulfillment timelines vary.
