Release-over-release data

What changed in the Open Food Facts catalog?

A barcode-keyed comparison of the retained March 12, 2026 and July 31, 2026 source snapshots, separating source-record revisions from changes introduced by the importer and derived screening layer.

Two retained snapshots

The catalog grew from 859,658 to 894,137 product records. 35,736 barcodes appear only in the current snapshot, 1,257 appear only in the prior snapshot, and 36,601 shared barcodes changed in at least one source field.

+35,736
barcodes added to the catalog
-1,257
barcodes absent from the current snapshot
3,841
shared records with changed source ingredient text
6,950
shared records with a changed derived score or score state

Comparison window: March 12, 2026 to July 31, 2026. Counts describe database records, not verified manufacturer reformulations.

How to read these changes

Open Food Facts is a collaborative catalog. A changed name, brand, image, category, nutrition grade, or ingredient field can be an upstream correction, a new label submission, or a parser-normalization difference. It does not by itself prove a manufacturer changed the physical product.

PlainFoodSafe scores are derived from the imported ingredient record. Score movement can therefore follow a source-field revision or a normalization change. The tables below report the record movement and preserve both values; they do not label a product healthier, safer, improved, or worse.

Method and provenance

Rows are joined by barcode. Added and removed counts are set differences. Source-field changes compare the stored name, brand, category, ingredient text, Nutri-Score, NOVA group, serving size, and image URL. Derived changes compare PlainFoodSafe's score, flagged-ingredient count, and resolved-ingredient count after the same current pipeline completes.

The prior raw export and database backup remain retained, and every displayed aggregate is materialized by the reproducible ETL diff script rather than typed into this page. See the full methodology and the Open Food Facts data page.

Every figure on PlainFoodSafe is rendered directly from OpenFoodFacts and FDA data, no number is typed in by an editor. Release counts are materialized by a barcode-keyed SQL comparison of two retained database snapshots; no displayed count is typed by an editor. See our editorial standards & corrections policy, the methodology behind these numbers, or report a data error. Data current as of July 31, 2026.
